Seven Natural Remedies For Arthritis

Arthritis is an ailment that is characterized by inflammation of the joints and comes in a hundred different forms. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and occurs when cartilages in the bones wear away leaving the joints with no cushion that allow for smooth movement.  Pain occurs as a result of the friction created when the bones rub against each other. This is common in older individuals whose cartilage has deteriorated over time.

Other types of arthritis include rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease that causes chronic joint inflammation and gout which is brought about by an excess of uric acid in the body. Most types of arthritis are usually manifested through the swelling, stiffness, or pain in the joints.

Following are some of the more common natural remedies for the relief of arthritis–

1. Apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is one of the most versatile natural remedies for many ailments and is also effective for the relief of arthritis.  It contains a high level of potassium that can dissolve deposits of calcium in the joints. Its alkaline content counters the acid buildup in the joints that cause swelling and pain.  Mixed with 1 tablespoon of honey in a glass of water, can be taken to give relief to arthritis pain.

2. Garlic. Used for centuries as a natural disinfectant, garlic is one of the most effective remedies for arthritis because it also contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help alleviate swelling and consequently . It can be taken raw or cooked and is also available in tablet form.

3. Turmeric.  Turmeric, with origins in Ayurvedic medicine, contains the substance curcumin that has anti-inflammatory properties effective for joint swelling. Turmeric added in moderate amounts to the regular diet can help prevent the pain caused by arthritis.

4. Essential oils.  Massaging essential oils into the affected areas can also provide relief from the pain brought about by arthritis. Some of the oils that can give a soothing effect include eucalyptus, wintergreen, peppermint, cedar wood and sandalwood.

5. Vitamin supplements. Vitamin C and E can be powerful vitamin supplements as these rid the body of free radicals which destroy the joints. Vitamin D produces collagen and paired with calcium promotes healthy bones.  Studies have also shown that people who suffer from arthritis have a deficiency in Vitamin B6 and taking supplements of this will help restore your body’s supply of this.

6. Exercise. Joint movement is essential for arthritis sufferers and regular exercise is vital in maintaining healthy joints.  Exercise helps reduce joint stiffness and pain.  Even for patients who experience severe pain, gentle movement exercises are recommended to maintain the mobility of joints and prevent stiffness.

7. Foods to take. Fish, like salmon, which are high in omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties that can be beneficial in reducing the symptoms of arthritis.  Load up on green and yellow vegetables and fresh fruits to take advantage of their high beta carotene and vitamin C content that serve as natural antioxidants.

As with any medication it would be best to consult your doctor before taking supplements as natural remedies for arthritis to ensure that these are suitable for your particular condition.

Treat Your Arthritis Using These Arthritis Home Remedies Now

Arthritis has been studied by science for years, and there still is no cure. However, there are some home remedies for arthritis that science has found proven to work. Find out what they are, and start treating your arthritis now!

Well, for people who prefer an all natural approach, there is a solution. There are several herbal remedies that have been scientifically proven to reduce arthritis pain and symptoms, some even are better than the prescription medications currently used.

Lets begin with some herbs and home remedies that are generally used to treat arthritic symptoms:

Cherry Juice:

Black Cherry Juice has been found popularity by many recently as a home remedy to treat arthritis pain. The truth is, ANY 100% cherry juice can provide the benefit that black cherry juice does, because the same chemicals that that “work their magic” can be found in red cherries as well. The proven benefit of cherry juice was demonstrated to work for gout, which is a specific type of very painful arthritis. The studies were not very big, so further evidence is needed to see just how effective cherry juice is at preventing joint pain, but so far, it has some very real evidence to back it up.

The typical amount needed for medical benefit is 2 oz – 4 oz every day for 2 – 3 months. It may take a while to see results, but the benefit can be well worth it.

Ginger:

Ginger has a history that makes it one of the oldest used herbs in the world, and it has been used for many applications, including bad breath and inflammation. Because of its popularity, there have been some substantial studies conducted on its ability to treat arthritis pain. One study in particular used 261 people suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee, the most common form of arthritis. When the study was finished, the results were promising. The people who took ginger as opposed to the placebo experienced less pain, and didn’t need to take the amount of arthritis medications prior to taking the ginger. Whats more, Several studies have demonstrated similar results.

One study was conducted that couldn’t determine ginger did anything more than a placebo, but most studies agree ginger has proven some ability to reduce arthritis symptoms. This makes ginger a safe, home remedy for arthritis pain.

To treat arthritis you can take 2 – 4 grams per day, in the form of an extract, tea, or even a juice. Some people will rub ginger oil directly into the area around joints, however there isn’t any proof that this provides a benefit, and more research is needed.

Turmeric:

Turmeric is common in Indian dishes, and is often used in that culture to treat pain because it contains a compound called curcumin. It makes turmeric yellow, and it has some strong anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, turmeric is related to ginger. It can be a potent herbal remedy for osteoarthritis. This aspect was found in India’s top drug research institute, and the eastern world widely uses it as a treatment for inflammation and pain.

All of these herbs have research that back them up as effective herbal treatments for arthritis symptoms. Please talk to a doctor or medical professional before you start any treatment, herbal, home remedy, or otherwise.

Understanding Arthritis: Types and All Natural Treatments

According to the Arthritis Foundation nearly 46 million Americans suffer from painful arthritis. Are you one of them? It is one of the most prevalent chronic health problems and the nation’s leading cause of disability among Americans over the age of 15.

If you are one of the 46 million people battling you know that it limits everyday activities that others take for granted such as walking, dressing and bathing. Women are affected more greatly than men, but even children are at risk. Of the people with doctor-diagnosed arthritis 24.3 million are women, 17.1 million are men and nearly 300,000 are children.

Arthritis sufferers will tell you that the condition can come in many different shapes and forms affecting each individual differently. Arthritis causes pain, loss of movement and sometimes swelling. Here are some types of arthritis as described by the Arthritis Foundation:

  • Osteoarthritis: A degenerative joint disease in which the cartilage that covers the ends of bones in the joint deteriorates, causing pain and loss of movement as bone begins to rub against bone. It is the most prevalent form of arthritis.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: An autoimmune disease in which the joint lining becomes inflamed as part of the body’s immune system activity. Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the most serious and disabling types, affecting mostly women.
  • Gout: It is usually the result of a defect in body chemistry. This painful condition most often attacks small joints, especially the big toe. Fortunately, gout almost always can be completely controlled with medication and changes in diet.
  • Ankylosing spondylitis: A type of arthritis that affects the spine. As a result of inflammation, the bones of the spine grow together.
  • Juvenile arthritis: A general term for all types of arthritis that occur in children. Children may develop juvenile rheumatoid arthritis or childhood forms of lupus, ankylosing spondylitis or other types of arthritis.
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus): A serious disorder that can inflame and damage joints and other connective tissues throughout the body.
  • Scleroderma: A disease of the body’s connective tissue that causes a thickening and hardening of the skin.
  • Fibromyalgia: A condition in which widespread pain affects the muscles and attachments to the bone. It affects mostly women.

Gelatin Is A Natural Remedy for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Is gelatin a natural remedy for rheumatoid arthritis?  Gelatin is a natural remedy for rheumatoid arthritis which is safe, has few side effects and it is relatively inexpensive. This article explains how gelatin is used as a simple and safe natural remedy.

Gelatin is a protein containing amino acids that are part of the components of connective tissue including cartilage. The theory in its use is that gelatin can help reduce the swelling that occurs in joints of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. This can thus relieve the pain caused by the swollen joints and therefore gelatin is a natural remedy for rheumatoid arthritis.

In a Harvard study of patients with long-term rheumatoid arthritis, a heaping tablespoon of gelatin was given to 29 patients daily resulting in arthritis remission within 90 days for 28 out of the 29 patients.

Gelatin can usually be taken safely, rarely causing only a few people upset stomachs. Gelatin is a natural remedy used daily in a dose of one heaping tablespoon mixed into water or juice along with Vitamin C if preferred.

Restaurant food suppliers sell unsweetened gelatin in pound or kilogram (2.2 pounds) quantities which is the most cost effective way to purchase it. One popular brand is Nutra-Joint from the makers of Knox Gelatin.  However, unsweetened gelatin, available from your grocery store, may be used just as well.

The daily dose is a heaping tablespoon of gelatin in water or juice.  Vitamin C may be added to the gelatin and water mixture.

Gelatin Preparation instructions:

- Fill a glass quarter-full of cool tap water

- Sprinkle a heaping tbsp. of gelatin on top and let stand 2-3 minutes

- Add a quarter glass of hot tap water and stir well

- Add another quarter glass or more of cool tap water and stir again. Drink.

As gelatin is a substance created from animal bones, skins and connective tissue, it is important to take note of this fact particularly for those patients who do not consume large quantities of red meat, are vegetarians or avoid animal consumption for religious reasons. In these cases, fruit pectin (used to make jams and jellies and commonly sold under the Certo brand name) may be successfully substituted in this daily treatment because gelatin is a natural remedy for rheumatoid arthritis.

Unsweetened gelatin along with a supportive and preventive may certainly help some sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis. An easy way to maintain a supportive and preventive diet is to use a diet-usage program that calculates a healthy mix of nutrients creates your grocery shopping list and provides menus using the foods found in a supportive and preventive arthritis diet – and NOT other foods.  It doesn’t hurt when that diet-usage program can also help you loose weight at the same time!

Hello! Peter R. here. While I was researching a different disease I discovered a similarity with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was amazed at some of the medicines prescribed – particularly the side effects! Right then I needed to find out more and how to avoid those pages upon pages of (yuck) side effects!
